Journey as a guru/mentor

Most of the disciples of Sri Anjan Majumdar talk about a very unique and effective teaching method of him, where he makes the teaching- learning process very smooth and well designed. As a guru, he doesn't have any biased view towards any particular stream of music, rather he always gives importance to a proper musical understanding and power of analysis. After assessing the natural abilities of a disciple and after strengthening his/her fundamental sense of music he then suggests the most suitable genre for the learner. He always believes in quality over quantity and that is the reason he teaches each and every disciple on one is to one mode and thereby taking care of his/her special needs as a learner. There is never any place for group learning in his method of teaching because he simply doesn't believe in that format. It's the passion, for music with a very sharp intellect and scientific approach blended with utmost care and concern for the well-being of the students, that makes him an outstanding mentor. To him, music is like an ocean where you can not put any boundary wall and compartmentalize the genres. He is always against the sense of superiority that classical musicians usually take as a baggage. On the other hand, he is equally against the thoughts of some natural performers, who think systematic learning is not mandatory to become a musician. Rather he thinks, to perform any genre of music it's desirable to have a proper training of that particular genre. Every musical genre has some special nuances, sense of voice throwing , ideas of demonstration that can only be achieved through proper and intensive learning. That is the reason that many of his disciples sing contemporary compositions , Ghazals very successfully beside performing their primary classical/ semi classical genres. Another very important philosophy of his teaching is to encourage and bring out the creative imagination from his/her disciples. He believes in the individuality of every disciple and believes in setting them free so that they can come up with new ideas and different aesthetic shades. As a guru, his success is not only for the quality of music that his disciples present but also for the versatility they show in their performance. Melodious voice presentation, spiritual soul touching style of singing blended with subtle intelligence are the salient features of the performance of his disciples and for that they are acknowledged worldwide by both common listeners and experts.
