His musical background and philosophy
Being an earnest admirer and learner of Indian Classical and semiclassical music from his childhood, Anjan Majumdar obviously embeds an impression of Raagas underneath his compositions but he illustrates those with pure emotional and lyrical flair. With time, he became more and more innovative in his creative ideas with some extraordinary masterpieces. He has experimented with most simple structures as well as with very complex melodic architectures. The most unique role that he plays as a music director is to teach the temperament, pronunciation, improvisations, certain parts of vocal dynamics that manifest the emotional appeal of the lyrics and bring out the best, from any singer. He tends to incorporate certain intricacies in his compositions that are rarely found in contemporary compositions like use of Shrutis, use of long bridging notes and many such .. The most striking feature is that he maintains a standard of his creations irrespective of the maturity, experience or the reputation of the singers. Many of his unforgettable compositions are with his disciples and that proves the effectiveness of his mentoring as a music director. Another aspect of his soundscapes is the prominent use of acoustic instruments. Even in some compositions that are predominantly chord based with a flavor of western blues, he has used typical Indian instruments like Sitar or Bamboo flute to create good effects. That shows his musical command and clarity of thinking as a music director.
